Magnificent Seven Bag another win!!

Only Helen for the toilet run this week the rest of us took our chances and decided on a warm up instead. City Treasures are a tough team to play from experience so we knew we had our work cut out.

Defense just superb tonight, lots of turnovers again and the fact that their shooters had good height advantage made it no easy task. It really doesn’t matter the combination in that circle kate/Helen, Helen/Dan, Dan /Kate, it’s just an all-round solid defense but also lots of support tonight from Defense to mid Court with WA and C Passing back tonight to get the ball they wanted instead of forcing it through. Great back up work from GD and WD.

Tonight’s match showed us our strengths as a team and the importance of adapting to each team you’re playing but also adapting to how the game progresses and changing it up if you need to and that’s exactly what we did tonight. Traynors opponent was much taller than her so Sykes changed her game drawing her opponent out of the circle to give Traynor time and plenty of room to get into position easily. Almost becoming a third feeder. It worked as Traynor had the freedom to move where she wanted and receive the ball in with ease. It didn’t hurt that she was absolutely on fire tonight with everything going in and gaining her tonight’s POM! Very well deserved!

However honestly I think anyone could have got POM tonight. Work rate was extremely high from everyone, we were consistent throughout and great at getting the ball forward giving ourselves lots of options. Nothing better than all the hard work being done and it’s finished off nicely with a goal. Even when we pulled away with the lead, we still played as if there was only one in it. It showed, as I’ve literally never seen that shade of red on humans before. It also doesnt help when you’ve reached the good old age of 40, ran round like a blue arse fly for an hour and then expected to climb Four flights of stairs and hike a mile to get to your car. BNL stair lift and Golf buggies to our cars? Just an idea!
We go again next week…Summer league trophy…..Its Coming home, its coming home!

Effective Eight rule the court against Wyndley

We had travelled down in a heavily air conditioned car, It was Baltic conditions, so when we stepped out the car the humidity hit us like a ton of bricks. So the heat along with the fact Stars have not always had the best track record against Wyndley, we knew this was going to be a tough match!

However, the biggest issue we had to deal with initially was if Kate needed to go to the toilet before the start of the match or not. She really didn’t need to go but came to the conclusion it was better to go now than get all the way to the court and have to run back and be late for the start of the game. (It’s happened before IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN). We all agreed she was right and decided to go with her. This quick decision-making and teamwork boded well for the game ahead.

From the first Centre pass defense were on form with Kate closely guarding her player. Wyndley were forced into a pass, which Helen Intercepted and forwarded straight through to Erica in mid court who fired it into attack and straight into the net. Great turnover from defense. This was pretty much the story for the rest of the game with Our Dynamic duo batting everything away and Kate and Helen only allowing Wyndley to score just 25 goals. Erica made a huge impact supporting the defense throughout the game, and only dropping the ball twice, (I blame Covid though, everything is Covids fault!) Superb defensive teamwork from all three.
Its no surprise Stars won all four quarters with ease thanks to tonight’s super shooters. Sharon was hitting nothing but net even from right at the edge of the circle, which gained her POM tonight and deservedly so, well-done Shaz! Anything Sharon did miss, (although she might argue it was a pass) was quickly picked up by Sykesy and her stretch Armstrong hands and tucked away in the net.

All this of course supported by the magnificent mid court. Great to have O’Hara back flying up and down the court and doing what she does best, feeding into the circle, (no James Bond signature moves tonight but I’m sure they will be back in the future). Gemma and Emily did a fantastic job of driving the ball forward and being all round support for both the defense and attacking players. Great game, great teamwork!
Tough game next week but we take confidence from tonight’s performance and going again for another win!!!

Not the great win that was deserved and very much wanted but it was the start of season and we are all holding NON wanted weight and getting back into the game after a crazy time off. The team played amazing and Claire was super interceptor hence POM.

defence - worked hard but every time the GS got the ball she scored no matter what the defence did tactically they could not stop the goal going in. Helen really pushed Erica with movement in the circle followed by a back up pass from Claire All defence drove the ball up for attack once they had the ball back they was not letting the oppo have that ball again.

Mid court - the transisition from either an intercept or centre pass was superb work with Paige and Gemma like whippets driving forward for the ball and really claiming that pass. Emily came on with newer legs for that extra energy. All good drives and positivity from the mid court

Attack - with such tall defence the odds was stacked against the attacking circle with Leanne being smaller but holding her own and H there encouraging and feeding so much so they pulled it out the bag to score 32 goals between them both. Confidence is the key in this attack and next time we will see that I am sure after much encouragement from the other players. This is team work at its best.
